The manufacturer of dry bulk and petroleum stainless steel trailers, Heil Trailer Inc., is planning to re-enter the market for stainless steel tank trailers. The expansion is in efforts to diversify the market for their products.
Randall Swift, Heil’s CEO, has stated that the new trailers will be made in Juarez, Mexico using an advanced laser welding process that is reportedly better than existing production designs. Currently the company produces between 3,000 and 5,000 trailers each year. The potential market for stainless steel trailers is approximately 3,000 trailers per year.
Heil stopped making stainless steel tank trailers in 2001 in response to competition from low-cost producers, but now there is increased demand for premium trailers.
Mr. Swift also commented that the company plans to further expand in the future by including cryogenic trailers to their product line-up. There are even plans to add a new manufacturing plant overseas. Currently, the company’s trailers are built at three plants located in the US, Argentina and Thailand.
