Grupo Bimbo’s wind farm underway

Construction on Grupo Bimbo’s Piedra Larga wind farm in Mexico has commenced. The USD 200 million farm will have an installed power of 90MW when complete. Built in Union Hidalgo, Oaxaca, the plant will produce the majority of the power consumed by Grupo Bimbo’s 65 facilities in Mexico. DEMEX (Mexican Wind Farm Developments) will partner with Grupo Bimbo for the construction of the project and they have also asked Grupo Calidra, Frialsa Frigorificos and Papalote Museo del Nino to join. The wind farm is scheduled to become operational at the end of 2011, allowing the country to obtain 35% of power from clean energies by 2024.
