Grant announced for Johnstown steelmaker

Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program have announced a USD $2 million grant for Johnstown-based Gautier Specialty Metals and Gautier Steel expansion projects. The Clinton Street mill produces specialty metals, including stainless steel, titanium, carbon alloys and tool steel. The program provides money for projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.

Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania, said investing in companies such as Gautier helps to provide a bright future for American manufacturing. The Gautier mill outsources some of its products for additional processing, but Gautier Chief Financial Officer and Controller Jackie Kulback said the new government funds could change that. “Manufacturing has to stay current with the technology, but the big lesson (in Pennsylvania) is we can do it. We can compete on price and on quality,” added Wolf.
