GE tech used in world’s first IRCC plant

GE’s FlexEfficiency technology has been chosen for an innovative new power plant being developed by MetCap Energy Investments. The project will produce the world’s first Integrated Renewables Combined Cycle Power Plant (IRCC). Engineers were able to seamlessly integrate natural gas, wind and solar thermal power by designing the plant from a total equipment and control systems viewpoint and utilizing the flexibility of GE’s FlexEfficiency technology. The FlexEfficiency 50 IRCC plant features flexible operation through the integration of a next-generation 50 Hz 9FB Gas Turbine, a steam turbine, a generator, 22 MW of GE wind turbines and 50 MW of eSolar concentrated solar thermal tower technology; all are integrated by a GE Mark* VIe plant control system. The 530MW power plant will be situated in Karaman, Turkey, powering over 600,000 homes. It is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2015.
