Gamesa to build wind turbine

Gamesa is leading a EUR 25 million project to build a massive 15MW wind turbine. The Azimut Offshore Wind Energy 2020 project joins eleven companies and 22 research centres specialising in offshore wind energy technologies to generate the know-how required to develop a large-scale marine wind turbine using 100% Spanish technology. The purpose of the project, which is being co-financed by the participating companies, is to overcome the technical and financial hurdles currently limiting the rollout of offshore wind energy. Gamesa will head activities related to the capture of offshore wind energy, Acciona Windpower will be responsible for electricity conversion technologies; Alstom Wind will manage the substructure and marine structure segment; Acciona Energía will head construction, operation and maintenance at offshore sites; and Iberdrola Renovables will manage the integration of offshore wind energy into the electricity grid.
