Peruvian architect Frederick Cooper received Alacero Excellence Award 2013 at the Congress Alacero-54 in Lima, an event in which over 800 representatives of the Latin American steel industry participated.
The Latin American Steel Association, Alacero, recognises individual contributions to the steel industry or to the promotion of the use of steel. This year the Peruvian Organizing Committee, presided by Ricardo Cillóniz, chose promoter, teacher and critic of the Peruvian architecture, Frederick Cooper, for the award.
Cooper made an invaluable contribution to the Peruvian architecture and to the promotion of the use of steel through his architectural proposals, both professionally and in teaching. Cooper developed more than 450 projects and architectural works, many of which make use of steel a key element of its structures, or give multiple architectural applications to steel.

His academic activity includes his work as Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Founding Director of the Center for Research and Restoration of Monuments of the National Institute of Culture. Since 2008, he serves as Director of the Steel Design Competition for Students of Architecture for Peru, a contest promoted by Alacero.
Currently, he is Dean and Principal Professor at the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
