Fluor Corporation (FLR) announced today that it was awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract by Dominion Virginia Power to build its new Brunswick County Power Station, a combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station in Brunswick County, Va. The project investment will exceed $1 billion. Based on the limited notice-to-proceed, Fluor will book a portion of its scope into backlog in the third quarter with the remainder to be booked in 2013 once Dominion receives final permits and approvals.
The new, approximately 1300MW Brunswick County Power Station is expected to be completed by May of 2016 and will produce enough electricity to power more than 325,000 homes. Fluor will design the plant at its engineering office in Charlotte, N.C. It is expected that about 700 craft workers will be onsite during the peak construction period. The Brunswick County Power Station will be located on a 205-acre site on U.S. Route 58 east of Lawrenceville, Va.
