First sand delivery to Victory Nickel

Victory Nickel, the Toronto-based nickel producer, has received the first nine-railcar delivery of washed, concentrated sand, which is being sent to its Seven Persons frac sand plant (nicknamed the 7P Plant) near Medicine Hat, Alberta. The sand, which arrived from Winona, Minnesota, will undergo initial plant commissioning.

Currently, two additional railcar lots are on the way to Alberta, but soon there will be a continuous supply of sand delivered to the 7P Plant to achieve full production of 500,000 tons.

Frac sand is used in the oil and gas industry as part of the hydraulic fracturing process. Specifically, it increases flow to the wellhead. Frac sand must have certain characteristics in order to achieve certain levels of crush resistance.
