Hobart Brothers, headquartered in Troy, Ohio, US, has released its self-shielded, flux-cored welding wire for use in X80 pipeline applications. The wire creates welds with high tensile strength and Charpy V-notch impact values from 107ft-lbs at -20F to 96ft-lbs at -40F. Classified under AWS A5.29, class E81T8-Ni2 J, the wire provides a typical tensile strength of 94,000PSI and a yield strength of 84,000PSI. It is available in 5/64in-dia in a variety of packages and weights. The wire features a fast-freezing slag that is nearly self-peeling, making it suitable for welding in all positions and helping to reduce postweld cleaning time. It can be used for either single or multi-pass welding on fillet, lap, or deep-groove butt welds, especially those exposed to low temperatures.
