The North American branch of Evraz has stopped all operations at its steel mill in Claymont, Delaware because of low market demand and the ever-increasing volume of imports. Evraz, however, has announced that it will consider reopening the mill once the market conditions start to show signs of improvement.
The 375 employees will begin, over the next two months, to finish processing and ship any remaining products. They will also have to prepare the mill to remain inactive.
The company does not forsee any adverse financial effects on its North American operations since customers of the Claymont Mill will be served by the other locations in Portland, Oregon and Regina, Saskatchewan.
