Desktop Metal has launched its H13 tool steel for its metal 3D printing system, Studio System, for prototyping and low volume production.
The H13 tool steel is recommended for hot work and cold work tooling applications, as it is known for its stability in heat treatment, has exceptional hot hardness, and abrasion resistance.
3D printing in H13 tool steel is said to enable design teams to quickly and easily produce dies featuring complex extrusion profiles previously unattainable via machining. The H13 tool steel is the newest addition to the Studio System materials library, which also includes 316L and 17-4 PH stainless steels. Desktop Metal plans to introduce additional core metals to its portfolio, including superalloys, carbon steels, and copper.
