Coping with the deterioration of materials

The 2018 Managing Aging Plants USA Conference and Exhibition, organized with The Materials Technology Institute (MTI), will be held on November 13 and 14, 2018 at the Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria Hotel in Houston, Texas.
Stainless Steel World Americas spoke with Steering Committee Member, Mr. Chuck Young, a Metallurgist and Business Development Manager with Tricor Metals to discuss the importance of being involved with a conference like this and how the International Titanium Association (ITA) will be participating.

He states, “Most of the infrastructure in the chemical, refining, and other manufacturing industries is getting old, especially in North America, while the majority of these companies have reduced their technical staff or lost expertise due to the retirement of long time Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Reliance on just their own companyÂ’s experience may not result in an overall best solution to problems.”

He continues, “That is where interaction at conferences such as the Managing Aging Plants USA Conference, or in associations such as ITA and MTI, significantly helps these Plant and Reliability Engineers to understand problems and interact with others who have similar experiences. This allows a transfer of knowledge that would not happen without these organizations.”
