Coping with age-related damage mechanisms

The 2018 Managing Aging Plants USA Conference and Exhibition will be held on November 13 and 14, 2018 at the Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria Hotel in Houston, Texas and is being organized in part by the Materials Technology Institute (MTI). Stainless Steel World Americas sat down with the conference’s Chairman, Mr. Kenneth (Ken) Kirkman, Principal Engineer with E2G|The Equity Engineering Group, Inc. to discuss his personal experiences with aging infrastructure in the process industries and why he feels this is an important event for young engineers to attend.

He states, “Coping with age-or time-related dam- age mechanisms has been an ongoing theme throughout my career. For example, I personally worked at two refineries that trace their beginnings back to the early 1900s. This isn’t unusual. It is quite common to find refinery units that have been operating for 40 or even 60 years.”
