Canadian mineral explorer Continental Nickel Limited is set to begin mining nickel in southern Tanzania following positive exploration results. President of CNI, David Massola said that the drilling which was conducted in December 2011 jointly with IMX Resources Limited of Australia confirmed the presence of Nickel at Ntaka Hill in Nachingwea District. The company’s key asset is its 75% interest in the Nachingwea project in Tanzania, where mineral resources have been estimated at 60,900tns of contained nickel, and an additional 131,000tns of contained nickel in Inferred Mineral Resources. William Ngeleja, minister for energy and minerals, confirmed that the company intends to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in accordance to the requirements of the Tanzania Environmental Management Act, 2005, before it can apply for a mining license.
