SMST to award $50,000 for Nitinol research
The International Organization on Shape Memory and Superelastic Technology (SMST), an Affiliate Society of ASM International, Cleveland, recently announces a USD $50,000 Fellowship award sponsored by Edwards LifeSciences for a graduate student doing research on shape memory materials such as Nitinol.
Posco manganese steel for largest LNG-fed carrier
South Koreas steelmaking giant Posco, with branches in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Uruguay and the US, recently announced that the high-performance manganese steel the company has developed will be applied to the worlds largest liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled bulk carrier that is being built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

Alcoa opens a 3D printing metal powder plant
Alcoa has opened their own 3D printing metal powder production facility. Located at the Alcoa Technology Center in Pennsylvania, one of the worlds largest light metals research centers, the company will produce proprietary titanium, nickel and aluminum powders optimized for 3D printed aerospace parts.
