UPM approved for laser machining/cutting

After a recent audit, United Performance Metals was approved to perform laser machining/cutting for General Electric and its sub-tier providers. As a result of the audit, United Performance Metals was awarded a GE Transportation Aviation Special Process Certification for Laser Machining/Cutting (EE02, S-422).

Metso signs contract for power plant

Metso has signed a contract with Consórcio Construtor Belo Monte (CCBM) to supply equipment to the construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant (UHE Belo Monte) in Brazil. The project is located at the Xingu River, Pará State, in the northern region of the country.

HOVENSA refinery in St. Croix closes

The 500,000 barrels a day (b/d) HOVENSA oil refinery in St Croix, US Virgin Islands will be shut down. One of the 10 largest refineries in the world and the largest in the Caribbean, the plant was a joint venture between the Hess Corporation and Petroleos de Venezuela SA.

Dominican LNG terminal ready in 2014
