Synalloy Corp. sells Blackman Uhler

Synalloy Corp., a producer of stainless steel pipe, fabricator of stainless and carbon steel piping systems, and producer of specialty chemicals, has announced that on 2 October 2009, the company entered into a Asset Purchase Agreement with SantoLubes Manufacturing LLC to sell the specialty chemical business of Blackman Uhler Specialties LLC (BU), along with certain property, plant and equipment held by Synalloy Corp., all located at the Spartanburg, South Carolina, US location.

Greenville Tube receives ISO 9001:2008

US-based Greenville Tube, a RathGibson company, and manufacturer of small diameter stainless steel and nickel alloy seamless and US-based welded and drawn tubing and pipe, has received ISO 9001:2008 Certification.

Sudbury resumes partial production

Vale SA has restarted partial production on1 October 2009 at Sudbury, its largest nickel and copper unit in Canada, as a strike continues.

Nucor acquires

Steelmaker Nucor Corp. now has acquired nearly 3900 acres in St James Parish, enough land to build its proposed USD 2 billion-plus mill. Still unknown, though, is whether the company will move forward with the mill, which would be part of a long-term strategy to supply raw materials to Nucor’s mini-steel mills across the south-central and SE US.

Christmas trees and wellheads order

Wood Group Pressure Control (WGPC), part of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC, has been awarded a contract by Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) valued at USD 11.2 million to provide 125 wellheads and Christmas trees for onshore oil & gas fields in Southern Mexico.
