Mroz, new pres and CEO of Yokogawa America

Yokogawa Electric Corporation has appointed Chester J. Mroz as the next president and CEO of Yokogawa Corporation of America. A veteran of the process automation industry, Mroz will be responsible for overseeing all Yokogawa business operations in North America. He has held several engineering, managerial, consulting, and senior executive positions

Sandmeyer appoints two new VP’s

Sandmeyer Steel Company (Sandmeyer) has appointed John M. Curley, III, as the Vice President of International Sales and Global Marketing, a newly created position in the company. In his new role he will oversee the development of business outside of the United States, a quickly expanding market for Sandmeyer.

Electric arc furnace course held in Argentina

The 2nd International Short Course on Electric Arc Furnace was held at the Plaza Real Suites Hotel, Rosario, Argentina, from 29-30 March 2011. Organized by consulting and training company Metallon, the event was attended by steelmakers and foundrymen from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Sperling Industries invests in expansion

Structural steel fabricator, Sperling Industries will invest USD 10 million to construct a new automated fabricated structural steel plant. Based in Sperling, Manitoba, Canada, the company will begin construction on the new 35,000 sq/ft facility shortly; Sperling executives are already looking to bid on planned construction projects in Manitoba. 

Williams to produce ethane/ethylene for NOVA

Williams has signed a long-term agreement to produce up to 17,000 barrels per day (bpd) of ethane and ethylene for NOVA Chemicals Corporation. Williams will invest CAD 311 million to expand its two main facilities in Alberta in support of the new agreement. Scheduled to begin operation in the first quarter of 2013

Song new area manager for Jet Edge

Haihong (Samuel) Song has been appointed area manager of Jet Edge, Inc.’s new sales office in Shanghai, China. Song will be in charge of developing Jet Edge’s business presence in China’s swiftly growing manufacturing market. He will be responsible for directly overseeing the Shanghai office

Statoil completes well in Egypt

Statoil has completed the Kiwi well in Egypt’s El Dabaa License (Block 9) this week and the Discoverer Americas drillship will head back to the US Gulf of Mexico shortly. The exploration well targeted the Kiwi prospect located in the Mediterranean west of the Nile Delta, with a water depth of approximately 2700m at the drill site.

TATA in talks to buy B.C. coal mines

TATA Steel has initiated discussion with the government of British Columbia in Canada to acquire coking coal mines. TATA is looking to obtain a coking coal mine for its European operations, which currently have zero raw material integration.

Electralloy to increase prices

Electralloy will increase their prices on stainless grades and specialty and nickel alloy mill products. Mill products include the forms of all remelted products, in addition to billet, master alloy, and specialty nickel bar. The cost of selected air melted and all remelted stainless grades

Siemens to supply auto-tech to sugar refinery

Siemens has received a contract to equip a sugar refinery, operating in North America, with electrical and control technology. Currently under construction in Gramercy, Louisiana, the plant will be owned and operated by Louisiana Sugar Refining (LSR), a joint venture between Sugar Growers and Refiners
