Roberts new Olefins & Polyolefins VP

LyondellBasell has appointed Tim Roberts as the new Senior Vice President of Olefins and Polyolefins for the Americas region. He will be based in Houston. Roberts brings a broad knowledge of the global chemical industry to the table.

Shell to move forward with Floating LNG

The Board of Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) has made the final investment decision on the Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Project in Australia; the company will build the world's first FLNG facility. Moored some 200km from the closest land in Australia, the FLNG facility will produce gas from offshore fields

Sandvik returns to production after fire

Sandvik’s wire production facility in Sandviken, Sweden has begun its first production runs after a major fire attacked the facility. The fire took place on 14 April and continued on into 15 April 2011, destroying equipment and damaging parts. The pickling plant within the wire production facility was completely destroyed and some of the wire drawing machines were damaged. No one was injured.  After a complete assessment of the damage, work began immediately on decontaminating, cleaning, repairing and, where applicable, replacing the plant.

Diversified Ulbrich launches new website

Diversified Ulbrich of Canada has launched its new website, www.DiversifiedUlbrich.ca, as part of a continued expansion plan. Widely known in Canada for an extensive inventory of stainless products, the company is also showcasing a new aluminum sheet product line. The new site was created for new and existing clients desiring an online source of information regarding Diversified’s products and services. The site includes tools, quality form downloads, an RFQ submission page and an online quality survey.

G.O. Carlson, Inc. enjoys 75th anniversary

G.O. Carlson, Inc., producer of high-performance corrosion- and heat-resistant materials, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company held a special event to celebrate this milestone at the Cross Creek Resort and Country Club with more than 220 people in attendance including retirees, current employees from both G.O. Carlson, Inc. and Electralloy, and several members of the Travaglini family.

GL Noble Denton publishes new guideline

GL Noble Denton has published a new Guideline for the certification of blow-out preventers (BOPs). The Guideline defines the steps to be taken by independent third party certification bodies in certifying the integrity of the asset, which monitors and controls the flow of oil and gas wells. Since the Macondo incident, the oil and gas sector has placed much more emphasis on the inspection and testing of BOPs to ensure compliance with industry standards.
