Canadian province open to nuclear power

Alberta, Canada’s energy minister has stated that the province is open for business for nuclear power plants. Mel Knight says the government will look at proposed nuclear power plants on a case-by-case basis, but it will not help fund them or promise to buy the energy. Mr Knight’s announcement caps a lengthy consultation and review of whether Alberta should go nuclear or ban it, as some other Canadian provinces have done. Bruce Power of Ontario has been looking at building a nuclear plant near Peace River in NW Alberta, but has not made a formal application to federal regulators.
