Technip has been awarded by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd a new engineering and procurement contract for the expansion of a facility converting heavy oil into lighter synthetic crude (upgrader). It is part of Tranche 2 of the Horizon project, located north of Fort MacMurray, in Alberta. Technip’s operating center in Rome, Italy, will execute the contract. The engineering, procurement and supply of equipment and materials activities, worth EUR 130 million, will be charged on a lump sum basis. Construction management assistance services will be delivered by Technip as part of an integrated team with the client, on a reimbursable basis. The contract covers four new units: a gas recovery unit, butane treating unit, sulphur recovery facilities, and a carbon dioxide capture unit. The contract is scheduled to be completed in third quarter of 2011.
