WorleyParsons Ltd has been awarded the detailed engineering, commissioning and construction support for the facilities of the Keystone Pipeline System expansion for TransCanada Keystone Pipeline LP. The expansion is complementary to the first phase of the Keystone Pipeline System and, once completed, will serve existing refineries and markets on the US Gulf Coast in Texas. The WorleyParsons Edmonton scope includes detailed design for 38 pump stations, 61 remote block valve sites, a one million barrel terminal, a one million barrel expansion to an existing terminal and modifications to a third terminal. Detailed engineering is currently underway and will continue through the various phases of the project until March 2011. The scope also includes construction and commissioning support leading up to the proposed in-service date of December 2012. The expansion is an approximate 3200km, 36in crude oil pipeline that will originate at Hardisty, Alberta and extend SE through Saskatchewan, Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. It will incorporate a portion of the Keystone Pipeline System to be constructed through Kansas to Cushing, Oklahoma, before continuing through Oklahoma to a delivery point near existing terminals in Nederland, Texas to serve the Port Arthur, Texas marketplace.
