Calpine signs power purchase agreement with Xcel E

 
 
 
Calpine Corporation subsidiary Calpine Energy Services L.P. Signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to provide Xcel Energy subsidiary Southwestern Public Services Co. (SPS) with 200 megawatts of additional capacity and energy from June 1st, 2014 to May 31st, 2019 from Calpine’s Oneta Energy Center. Under a seven-year PPA that began on January 1st, 2012, Calpine is already providing 200MW of capacity and energy from Oneta Energy Center.
 
 
The Oneta Energy Center in Coweta, Oklahoma is a combined-cycle power plant with a 1,134 megawatt capacity of electricity using primarily Oklahoma-produced natural gas.
 
 
The PPA requires approval from the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
