Stainless steel plane and train maker Bombardier has an opportunity to break into the U.S. high-speed rail market with President Obama’s USD 53 billion, six-year commitment to a national network of fast trains. The Montreal based company has maintained a presence in the U.S. rail sector for some time as it operates assembly and component manufacturing facilities in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but true high-speed trains have yet to be built in the country. President Obama announced on 8 February 2011 that in addition to the USD 10.5 billion already dedicated to U.S. high-speed and intercity rail development, USD 53 million will be added. Bombardier is in a good position to put in successful bids on any project in any state as it can easily meet conditions aimed at generating jobs in the U.S. The company also has a full portfolio of advanced, high-speed and intercity technology.
