Nestlé, the multinational food and beverage company, has high standards for safety. In fact, it sets its standards even higher than those imposed by the US Food & Drug Administration. At one of its US plants, Nestlé required a product that could safely pump out both caustic and acidic wastewater laden with solids.
The pump needed to have erosion resistance so the metallurgy would have to be able to stand up to course solids like skins, stems, pits and seeds. It would also need superior corrosion resistance because of the acidity of the food waste media and clean in place solutions. Kerr Pump & Supply in Michigan was consulted and recommended BJM Pump’s SKX75CSS stainless steel submersible pump with a high grade of cast 316 stainless steel. In terms of wear resistance all parts exposed to the food waste such as impeller, wear-plate, oil-housing, pump housing and inner pump top are made of case 316 stainless steel material. As well, the submersible motor is protected by double mechanical seals.
