BAE-Newplan Group Ltd , a subsidiary of Montreal, Canada-based SNC-Lavalin Inc., has launched a CAN 21 million lawsuit against Altius Minerals Corp., alleging it has not been paid for work on a proposed CAN 4.6 billion oil refinery in Newfoundland, Canada. BAE-Newplan Group Ltd has filed a statement of claim with the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, alleging that it is owed CAN 20.6 million. The company provided environmental and engineering services for the proposed project. Altius said it will vigorously fight the claim, asserting it lacks merit. The Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corp., partly owned by Altius, won creditor protection in June after BAE-Newplan Group petitioned to have it declared bankrupt. The provincial and federal governments signed off on the environmental impact study for the facility earlier this year.
