AREVA signs major fuel contract with Exelon

AREVA has signed a contract with the U.S. utility Exelon to provide nuclear fuel fabrication services to Dresden and Quad Cities nuclear power stations in Illinois and to continue fabrication services to Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania.
Under the agreement, AREVA will supply a total of twelve reloads to the four Dresden and Quad Cities units beginning in 2016.
In addition, the group will provide six fuel reloads to Three Mile Island and continue to supply the facility with both fuel and engineering services.

“AREVA is proud that Exelon chose to use its ATRIUMTM 10XM,” said Executive VP for AREVA’s fuel activities, Markus Birkhofer. “This contract recognizes the excellent performance of our fuel technologies and confirms our strong position on the boiling water reactor market.”
AREVA will fabricate the fuel at its Richland, Washington facility.
AREVA’s ATRIUM™ 10XM is a proven, safe, and reliable product. It is designed to improve fuel efficiency and operating flexibility. Its superior performance has been demonstrated by reliable operation in more than 2,000 fuel assemblies.
ATRIUM 11, which is under development, will provide additional fuel cycle economics to boiling water reactors.
