ArcelorMittal USA leaders have been recognised for their contribution to the stainless steel industry with a host of leadership accolades from renowned steel associations. In addition, the company’s Burns Harbor coke plant in Indiana won a project excellence award.
Michael G. Rippey, chairman of ArcelorMittal’s US operations, was awarded the American Iron and Steel Institute’s (AISI’s) “Gary Memorial Medal” – an award that celebrates individuals who have made life-long contributions to the North American steel industry.
The Association for Iron and Steel Technology(AIST) has presented its “Distinguished Member and Fellow Award” to both Andy Harshaw, president and CEO of ArcelorMittal USA Flat Carbon, and Kenneth E. Blazek, principal engineer, ArcelorMittal Global R&D, East Chicago.
Also, ArcelorMittal’s Burns Harbor coke plant has also been recognised by AIST with a project excellence award for outstanding work in completing the department’s no.1 battery collecting main and roof repair projects in 2014. The US$40m coke plant project began in October 2013 and was completed in March 2014. Phase one of the project involved the battery’s roof repair work, which began in November 2013 and was completed in early April 2014. During phase two, March-April 2014, the battery was shut down while on hot idle to change the collecting main and finish the battery top roof.
