AM/NS Calvert board appoints new president

Joint venture partners ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) appointed Chris Richards as the president of the newly created AM/NS Calvert, a carbon steel processing facility in Calvert, Ala. Formerly ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, ArcelorMittal and NSSMC acquired the facility from ThyssenKrupp AG in February 2014 through a 50/50 investment.

Richards will report to and serve on a joint-venture managing board. He will oversee all areas of operations at the facility, which has a capacity of producing 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service centre and construction industries in the NAFTA market.

Since 2006, Richards served as president of I/N Tek and I/N Kote, highly successful ArcelorMittal and NSSMC steel processing joint ventures located in New Carlisle, Ind. From 1989 to 2006, he held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of operations, quality assurance, process technology, logistics and customer service at Bethlehem Steel’s Lackawanna, NY facility.
