Alacero launches 7th steel design contest

Latin American Steel Association (Alacero) announced the seventh Steel Design Contest for Architecture Students 2014. This year’s contest focuses on socio-economic inequality and housing. The students are to bring forward a proposal for a Middle Height Social Housing Building, as an area to improve the quality of life of the population through the construction of decent social housing inside the city.

Alacero organises this contest each year. In 2013, 1400 students from 159 countries participated, delivering 482 proposals at the regional level. All countries that have Active Alacero members are invited to participate. In the first stage, each country, holds a local competition and chooses a winning team, which will then compete in the finals. The preliminary projects that make it to the final level will be analysed by a jury composed of architects from each participating country.

Founded in 1959, Alacero is formed by 46 companies of 25 countries, whose annual production of about 70 million tons represents 95 percent of the steel manufactured in Latin America. Alacero is a Special Consulting Organization to the United Nations and is recognised as International Non-Government Organization by the Republic of Chile, host country of Alacero´s headquarters.
