AK Steel’s Middletown (OH) Works coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI), a leading industry trade organisation, for the tenth time. The award recognises the company for operating one of the safest cokemaking facilities in America during 2013. AK Steel’s Middletown Works coke plant, along with two other ACCCI member coke facilities, operated the entire year of 2013 without any OSHA-recordable injuries.
“AK Steel is honoured to be recognised by the ACCCI – an achievement that reflects the company’s commitment to safety at all of our manufacturing operations”, said James L. Wainscott, chairman, president and CEO of AK Steel. “We congratulate everyone at our Middletown Works coke plant, as well as all those affiliated with our fellow Max Eward award winners, for their outstanding safety performance.” The ACCCI recognition marks the fourteenth time in the past 17 years that an AK Steel coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award.
“The employees at AK Steel’s Middletown Works coke plant continue to be role models for safety in the workplace”, said Bruce Steiner, president of the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute. “We congratulate them, and the company, for promoting a culture of safety that continues to produce exceptional results.”
