AIST Foundation pulls in USD 1 million in funding

The AIST Foundation board of trustees has raised over USD 1 million during the 2010–2011 academic year in support of its mission. The AIST Foundation is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit corporation created for charitable, education and scientific purposes. The foundation seeks to draw in technology-oriented professionals to the steel industry by educating the public about the high-tech, diverse and rewarding nature of careers in modern steelmaking. Scholarships and grants are given to students and instructors on an annual basis to promote awareness and interest within iron and steel-related industries. Since 2007, approximately USD 2 million has been awarded via the AIST Foundation and its affiliated groups. The Foundation trustees secured industry pledges exceeding USD 560,000 during its annual fund campaign and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology board of directors contributed an additional USD 500,000. The Foundation’s benefactors include Nucor, ArcelorMittal, United States Steel Corporation, SSAB North America, Hatch Associates Consultants, Steel Dynamics Inc., CMC Americas, Harsco Metals & Minerals, MCC International, Berry Metal Co. and Riverside Refractories.
