A new breed of steels – Part two

In the second part of their two-part article, Hyper-duplex stainless steels, Guocai Chai and Pasi Kangas from Sandvik Research & Development continue to talk about how duplex stainless steels are put to the test on a number of mechanical parameters. This includes tensile properties, impact toughness, fracture toughness, and fatigue resistance.
Due to their high amounts of alloying elements, hyper-duplex stainless steels offer very high tensile properties, Chai and Kangas explain. Actually, the hyper-duplex stainless steel SAF 3207 HD in the quenched-annealed condition shows the highest strength among the existing duplex stainless steels.
