The benefits of Tungsten Electrode Grinders

Back by popular demand, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® have re-initiated the manufacturing of the famous TEG-2 Tungsten Electrode Grinder, under the new name of TEG-1000.

Ron Sewell, Chairman for HFT® said: “Ensuring your Tungsten Electrodes are sharpened correctly can help to improve weld quality. Tungsten Electrode Grinders are a convenient, safer and more accurate way than other methods of grinding Tungsten Electrodes. Grinding thoriated Tungsten Electrodes with open air belt and disc grinding tools for example can be extra hazardous not only for safety, but also for personal health. To overcome these conditions, whilst maintaining a very high life expectancy for the Tungsten Electrode we manufacture blue-tipped MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes that contain non-radioactive rare earth elements, eliminating the risk to health posed by red tipped radiotoxic thoriated Tungsten Electrodes.”
Other Tungsten Electrodes work at higher temperatures so their oxide additions (mostly radioactive) burn out, or evaporate much faster than those non-radioactive ingredients in MultiStrike®, so much so that MultiStrikes® give at least 10 times more arc striking capacity over other Tungsten Electrodes, when tested under the same conditions.
MultiStrikes® can be used for welding aluminium with the AC process, as well as steels and alloys with the DC process, which allows the welder to have just one type of Tungsten Electrode to weld all materials and reduce the amount of stocks and purchasing requisitions.
The use of the TEG-1000 Grinder with HFT®’s well established and technically popular MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes will give repeatable Tungsten Electrode points every time, enabling consistent repeatable arc performance and welding results. Sizes 1.0 to 3.2 mm can be ground as standard, with other sizes catered for on request.
Repeatable high quality TIG welding requires Tungsten Electrodes to have perfectly ground and polished tips. HFT®’s TEG-1000 provides these, time after time, to exactly the same size and shape. The diamond wheel grinds the Tungsten Electrodes longitudinally, preventing arc flicker or wander caused by circumferential lines or ridges found on electrodes, which have been ground incorrectly.
