Outokumpu stainless steel strengthens dam locks

Outokumpu, a global leader in the stainless steel industry, with numerous locations throughout the Americas, recently delivered duplex stainless steel for the two locks, or spillway gates, in the upgraded Lossendammen dam structure in Central Sweden. One aim of the project was to secure the management of increasing water flows in the future in a safe manner.

Outokumpu’s high performance Forta LDX 2101 duplex stainless steel was chosen for the two arched locks. The grade has high strength and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking and corrosion fatigue, which is important in the dam structures. “Outokumpu plate service center advised the contractor on the advantages of stainless steel in this project. The benefits for the customer were weight saving, easier transportation and maintenance,” says Sales Manager Thomas Funke at Outokumpu PSC.
