SMST to award $50,000 for Nitinol research

The International Organization on Shape Memory and Superelastic Technology (SMST), an Affiliate Society of ASM International, Cleveland, recently announces a USD $50,000 Fellowship award sponsored by Edwards LifeSciences for a graduate student doing research on shape memory materials such as Nitinol. Nickel titanium, also known as nitinol, is a metal alloy of nickel and titanium, where the two elements are present in roughly equal atomic percentages.

The intent of the SMST Fellowship is to provide a current use gift to one or more graduate students for the purpose of initiating interest in a unique path of research for shape memory materials such as Nitinol. Each submission will be judged by the SMST Board on its ability to further the knowledge of shape memory materials.

The recipient(s) will be announced by mid-April 2017 and again at the 2017 SMST Conference in San Diego. The recipient(s) will present his or her research results at the 2019 SMST Conference to be held in Constance, Germany.
