Yara International ASA has entered a deal to acquire a 60 percent stake in the Galvani Indústria, Comércio e Serviços S/A (Galvani) for approximately $318 million.
Galvani is a Brazilian independent, privately held fertilizer company. It deals with phosphate mining, Single Super Phosphate (SSP) production and distribution of fertilizers in both the center and northeast of Brazil.
Yara has a growth strategy for South America and this acquisition will complement it nicely as the company would like to develop a production footprint in Brazil to highlight its established position. Just recently, Yara acquired the Bunge fertilizer business in Brazil.
Galvani has a total SSP production capacity of approximately 1 million metric tons per year through the industrial complex of Paulina and Luis Eduardo Magalhaes. Both of the sites source phosphate rock from two purchased mines, Lagamar and Angico dos Dias as well as the leased mine Irece.
