ArcelorMittal Mexico has been recognised by the Mexican Philanthropy Centre (CEMEFI) as a socially responsible company for the third consecutive year. The award was received by Victor Cairo, ArcelorMittal Mexico CEO, during the seventh Latin American meeting of socially responsible companies held in Mexico City in April.
CEMEFI’s ESR awards, now in their fourteenth year, are the most prestigious of their kind in Mexico and rank among the most renowned awards of their kind in the Americas. The distinction is awarded to companies that show a proven commitment towards their employees, investors, customers, authorities and society in general, and that engage voluntarily and publicly with society as part of their business strategy. Companies are assessed based on four criteria, quality of work environment, ethics and values, environmental management and community engagement.
ArcelorMittal Mexico’s CR programmes benefit more than 14,000 people every year. Last year, ArcelorMittal Mexico was also recognised for the high quality of its corporate responsibility programmes. This includes the ‘I Want To Be’, programme which seeks to prevent addictions in children aged between 10 and 14, and the ‘Ecological Reserve Management’ that develops and implements policies, standards and procedures to protect various flora and fauna species in Lazaro Cardenas in the state of Michoacan.
