Penn Stainless partnering with Lehigh University

The distributor and processor of stainless steel products, Penn Stainless, is forming a partnership with Lehigh University to work together to expand knowledge between material end-users and the research community.
The alliance, which is specifically with the University’s Materials Science and Engineering Department, is intended to resolve technical issues related to corrosion and welding, while also giving students the chance to learn more about the practical aspects related to manufacturing and engineering. Penn Stainless, which is in close proximity to the campus, will provide both faculty and students with access to over 20 specialty stainless, duplex and nickel alloys to research and experiment on.
Dr. John DuPont, from the Materials Science and Engineering Department, has commented, “We are very pleased to work with Penn Stainless Products. It’s vital that our students understand the real-world issues facing metal consumers, and the company’s extensive inventory and processing expertise is an invaluable asset that will help our students to complete experiments.”

Likewise, Jim Steward, president of Penn Stainless, has stated, “Lehigh University’s metallurgical staff and laboratory capabilities, combined with their range of engineering expertise in areas such as mechanical and industrial engineering and structural design, are excellent resources for Penn Stainless and our customers to draw from.”
