Even though stainless steel making has remained well-below the pre-crisis peak of 2006 in the European, US and Far East markets, MEPS International is reporting global output to grow mildly throughout the remainder of 2013.
The only exception is China’s output which is expected to reach over 17 million tonnes, an increase of seven percent. As a result, other countries in the Far East (excluding Japan) are reducing their production in response to this competition.

Along with China, the US also had some positive results. The first half of 2013 showed the stainless steel output to match expectations, but MEPS is forecasting that for the full year, US production will total more than two million tonnes. This would be up more than two percent from last year.
