Automation Technology, Inc. (ATI), the global leader in customized valve automation, has been awarded a contract to supply valve actuator systems to a major pipeline operator for their West Texas NGL pipeline. The contract included 50 actuator systems for 16-inch gate valves.
“This is an installation that is controlling the flow of natural gas liquids across Texas, stretching from far West Texas to the eastern area of the state.” said President of ATI, Brent York. “The project had a unique challenge to provide remote operation of the valves without any existing power source.”
ATI engineers created an automation system utilizing large pneumatic linear actuators combined with remote electric controls powered by a bank of high-pressure nitrogen bottles. The bank of nitrogen bottles combined with low pressure volume tanks provides the 10-second stroking times and multiple stroke capability the pipeline operator required for operations.
The nitrogen banks provide sufficient power for eight strokes before replacement.
ATI also provided the actuator adaptation for the customer supplied valves. A premier valve actuation distributor provided the installation and commissioning resources for the turnkey project.
