Non intrusive pig signaling from SPX

SPX Flow Technology has developed a solution for pipeline applications where a traditional intrusive pig signaler cannot be installed. The GD Engineering Hi-T MAG Alert pig signaler is a robust non-intrusive magnetic device that detects, signals and logs the passage of magnetic pigs at critical points along a pipeline. Appropriate for use both offshore and onshore, the Hi-T MAGAlert can log up to 50 events with time and date, and logged events can be viewed on a 70mm high visibility display incorporated in the unit. The detection speed ranges from 0.1m/s to over 10m/s. Ultra-bright LEDs which are visible from up to 100m ensure that pig passages can also be signaled as they occur. The Hi-T MAGAlert is a modular device that can be easily adapted to suit a vast range of applications and interface options. Fully ATEX compliant, the sensor is contained within certified aluminium or 316 stainless steel explosion-proof housings suitable for Zone 1, Zone 2 group IIA, IIB and H2 Areas. The device uses a magnetic sensor which detects changes in the magnetic field (Gauss level). As a result, pigs need to be fitted with rare earth magnets (neodymium iron boron) around the pig body. The window of detection, typically 0.2m either side of the sensor, varies depending on the diameter of the pipeline and the thickness of the wall.
