Alberta wind farm wins approval

Suncor Energy has received approval from Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to develop a proposed 88MW wind farm in the Canadian province. The Wintering Hills Wind Power Project will be spread out over 16,000 acres of land and comprise 55 turbines each with a generating capacity of 1.6MW. In order to become Suncor’s largest operated wind project to date, the farm will add to the existing four farms that have a total capacity of 147MW. At peak operation, the Wintering Hills project is expected to power about 35,000 homes, displacing the equivalent of about 200,000tn of CO2 per year.
