The ASTM Committee A01 on steel, stainless steel and related alloys has published a new standard, A1064/A1064M, specification for steel wire and welded wire reinforcement, plain and deformed, for concrete. The new standard is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee A01.05 on Steel Reinforcement. The applications range from reinforcement for concrete pipe and various other concrete drainage products to slabs on ground, bridges, walls and high-rise buildings. Wire and welded wire reinforcement is considered mild steel reinforcement and is used in much the same way as rebar. ASTM A1064/A1064M will eliminate the need for multiple A01.05 standards that referred to each other. The new standard combines information previously contained in the following four existing A01.05 standards: A82/A82M, Specification for steel wire, plain, for concrete reinforcement; A185/A185M, Specification for steel welded wire reinforcement, plain, for concrete; A496/A496M, Specification for steel wire, deformed, for concrete reinforcement; and A497/A497M, Specification for steel welded wire reinforcement, deformed, for concrete.
