Tenaris recently completed the installation and commissioning of a new water filtration system, intended to increase the state-of-the-art seamless pipe facility’s 95% water recycling rate. An $8 million USD investment, the system processes 8,000 to 9,000 gallons of water per minute from the facility’s hot rolling mill and is designed to improve water quality and reduce use, while extending the life of equipment and improving overall product quality.
Water from the hot rolling mill process is first sent to a scale pit, where large particles separate from the water and are removed by a crane. The new system then applies hydro cyclone technology to remove smaller particles, using a vortex process without moving parts, improving filtration efficiency. Finally, the small particles are sent to a filter press to extract as much water as possible before the sediments are disposed of.
