The first stainless steel slab was rolled out from the new low-CO₂ reheating furnace at Arvedi AST in Terni, Italy. This strategic investment marks the most important upgrade at the Terni plant in the last 30 years, combining advanced technology to enhance product quality while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.
At full production, the furnace is expected to improve energy efficiency of the hot rolling mill’s heat process. This is thanks to high-efficiency waste-to-heat equipment, insulation solutions, air enrichment, oxygen lancing, advanced automation, and AI-powered digital packages.
Additional reductions will be achieved by using any mixture of natural gas and hydrogen, with up to net zero emissions when firing 100% hydrogen.
Tenova and Arvedi AST collaborated closely to deliver the furnace, ensuring that the plant meets sustainability goals. This also helps prepare the plant for a future with lower emissions.
