Tenaris Steelmaking Facility in Pennsylvania Achieves ISO 14001 and 45001 Certifications

Tenaris’s steelmaking facility located in Koppel, Pennsylvania, has successfully completed the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, aligning with the highest global standards for environmental and safety management, following its acquisition by Tenaris in 2020.

ISO 14001 is designed to help organizations in all sectors measure and reduce environmental impact through the development of an Environmental Management System (EMS). ISO 45001 is an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) that provides a system for measuring and improving an organization’s health and safety impact.

Over the past five years, a multistage approach was used to identify and resolve safety and environmental risks to align the facility with ISO standards, culminating in the successful final certification. The Koppel facility has completed critical investment projects to improve and maintain health, safety and environmental standards, totaling more than $122 million USD. Among those projects, the new fumes exhaust system and the electric arc furnace automatic sampler have been key in elevating the facility to meet ISO standards.

The ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications in Koppel follow the path set by Tenaris’s industrial facilities across the US, including Bay City and McCarty, Texas, and Brookfield, Ohio, underscoring the company’s commitment to the health and safety of its employees and to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations.
