ArcelorMittal Dofasco Plans to Build a Pipeline For A “Green Steel” Project

According to ArcelorMittal Dofasco, its plan to switch to “green steel” by 2028 depends on the construction of a 14-kilometre natural gas pipeline in Hamilton. According to Tony Valeri, vice president of corporate affairs, getting rid of coke ovens and blast furnaces in favour of electric arc furnaces will save three million tons of carbon dioxide. The $1.8 billion project is expected to double the demand for natural gas from about 500 million cubic meters to more than a billion.
