After two years of proof of concept studies, Great Dykes Mining has announced that the five million tons per annum Bushbuckridge Stainless Steel (BBRSS) Project has passed all criteria set for Proof of Concept. This means the USD $8 billion Bushbuckridge Stainless Steel Macro Beneficiation Project can now progress to the next phase.
The Proof of Concept operating data was provided by Danieli S.P.A., a global steelmaking engineering company, which includes its American representative, Danieli Corporation. Financial analysis was conducted by the EPCM contractors to the project, Royal HaskoningDHV.
The project will create 10,000 permanent jobs at the operational phase and 30,000 artisanal jobs at construction phase. The project is now progressing to Prefeasibility stage with Bankable Feasibility studies projected to be completed by third quarter 2017. The Stainless Steel mill is planned to be located in Bushbuckridge, situated in Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.
