Siemens develops turbo compressor for sulfuric aci

Siemens has developed a turbo compressor for the sulfuric acid industry. With a rotor diameter of 2,240 millimeters and a capacity range of between 8 and 14 megawatts, the new single-stage STC-SOF (22) turbo compressor is the largest and highest-capacity machine of its class. This compressor can replace two machines operated in parallel in plants with a production capacity of up to 6,000 tons of sulfuric acid per day.
“The new STC-SOF (22) is based on a well-established compressor design concept and therefore extremely reliable,” said Head of the Compression Business Unit at Siemens’ Energy Sector, Lennart Nilsson. “It combines robustness and adaptability with the most advanced aerodynamic and mechanical design. This unit will help us successfully strengthen our position as the global technology leader for pre-designed turbo compressors.”
